Haiku Poems In Sixth Grade

April is Poetry Month, but sixth graders have been writing poems almost every week all year long. They have recently been writing haiku poems, which are a specific kind of poem that was developed in Japan. Haiku poems have only three lines and seventeen syllables! The first and last line each have five syllables, and the middle line has seven. The point of a haiku is to capture an image, a mood, or an idea as briefly but as fully as possible.
