Annual Giving

Why is Annual Giving Our Most Important Fundraising Effort?

The Berkeley Hall Annual Giving (All-In) Campaign is the primary way for you to support the yearly operational priorities of the school. By giving, you help Berkeley Hall strengthen and improve the educational experience of every student and the BHS community overall. We strive for 100% participation from our current community, regardless of gift size. We hope our families identify Berkeley Hall as their top philanthropic priority and recognize that their contributions make a significant impact.

As a reminder, donations to Berkeley Hall are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Here are the levels of support that are reported in the Berkeley Hall School Report of Philanthropy every year. Please make a difference at the highest level of support that is comfortable for you.

FAQs about Giving

List of 4 frequently asked questions.

  • Why should I give?

Tuition covers only about 85% of our annual operating budget. If we were to raise tuition to cover the full cost of a Berkeley Hall education, our School would be accessible to only the wealthiest of families. Instead, we ask our entire community to contribute to the best of their abilities, giving more students the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Your financial gift to Berkeley Hall …
    • Helps students — your children — tap into their creative expression through art, theater, music, and culture.
    • Sustains a tradition of improving student learning and achievement through improving teaching (“Depth of Study”).
    • Ensures strong team sports programs that match our exceptional academic tradition and instill strong values in every participant.
    • Provides more children the opportunity to have a Berkeley Hall education through financial assistance.
    • Supports our community service programs (such as Difference Maker workshops) that reflect our mission and philosophy and inspire students to make a positive difference in the world.
    • Helps retain talented teachers by supporting opportunities for continued professional growth and collaboration.
    • Provides technology resources like laptops and iPads for each student and Smart Boards in each classroom.
    • Helps maintain our beautiful, mountain-top, 66 acre campus.
    • Grows our 11,277 volume library with new books.
    • When our parent, board and employee community participates at 100%, it is much easier to request outside funding from foundations.
  • How much should I give?

The philanthropic support from Berkeley Hall parents, alumni, grandparents, faculty and staff, and parents of alumni make up most of the difference between what tuition covers and the actual cost of educating each student. The difference is $5,400 per student. Enhancements to educational offerings, faculty professional development, facilities, and financial assistance expand the margin of excellence and make the BHS experience unique.
  • How is Berkeley Hall supported by my gift?

The Annual Fund supports academic and extracurricular programming, the arts, athletics, financial aid, teacher professional development, campus beautification, technology, and so much more. Donors to the Berkeley Hall Fund are recognized in our Annual Report of Philanthropy.
  • Who gives to the Annual Fund?

All current Berkeley Hall parents, board members, and faculty and staff are expected to support the Annual Fund as generously as is comfortable every year. By prioritizing Berkeley Hall in your philanthropic giving, you demonstrate your commitment to your children and their classmates, as well as to the dedicated teachers and staff members who provide students with unparalleled guidance, instruction and care. We hope that alumni and parents of alumni look back fondly on Berkeley Hall and choose to support today’s generation of Bobcats. And we encourage grandparents and friends to invest in the education of our students.

When our parent community participates at 100%, it is much easier to request outside funding from foundations.
