Three New Merit Scholarships
For a number of years, Berkeley Hall has been blessed to have the Serafini Award and the Ian Burdick award, both of which are presented each year to a deserving 6th or 7th grade student who is returning to Berkeley Hall for school in the fall.
As you know, our school continues to strengthen its focus on fearless learning and on recognizing those students who strive for academic excellence as well as leadership by example. Therefore, it my pleasure to announce that we are awarding three new merit scholarships this year.
To be eligible for any of these three awards, a student must currently be finishing 5th grade at Berkeley Hall and must be enrolled at BHS for 6th grade. Students are nominated by a BHS administrator or teacher and a committee of administrators and Board members then consider each nominee. Recipients of this award will receive ¼ of their Berkeley Hall tuition until they graduate from Berkeley Hall, so long as they maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and citizenship of Consistent or better. Recipients of these three merit awards are consistently thoughtful and excellent students who take their academics very seriously, and are also individuals who support the learning of others through consistently good citizenship.
The first of these awards is the BHS Alumni Award, funded by Rick and Maritell Peters. The Peters family has had three generations go to school here at Berkeley Hall. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic excellence and strong moral character. The recipient of this award is Emma Donnelly.
The next award is the Ruth Loeb Merit Scholarship. Ruth Loeb has been a long-standing part of our BHS family, having served as a teacher and administrator at our school. She is currently serving on Berkeley Hall’s Board of Trustees. The Ruth Loeb Merit Scholarship is awarded to a student who is actively curious, and who demonstrates fearless learning and a deep love for, and engagement with, a variety of subject matters. The recipient of this award is Warren Jolicoeur.
The third award is the Andrews Academic Scholarship, funded by the chair of our Berkeley Hall Board of Trustees, Margaret Andrews, and her husband, Mel Andrews. Margaret is a former BHS administrator as well, having worked as our Admissions Director prior to Mrs. Miller. The Andrews Academic Award is given to a student who epitomizes active, analytical thinking and clear oral and written expression. The Andrews Academic Scholarship Award goes to Asia Fuqua.
